The highlight of the evening was the unexpected arrival of an until recently homeless friend, who announced, to our happiness, that he now had an apartment. Despite his chronic lack of money, he donated $10 for us to make a donated stocking for a boy 3-6.

This generosity, from one who can least afford it, called to mind the story of the widow's mite.

It was a humbling moment to realize that this gentleman had skidded over the icy sidewalks, in lieu of staying safe in his toasty new apartment, to make this contribution.
