My mom must have tried naalbinding at one time. I remember her making the needle. She took an old toothbrush that had a hole at the end for hanging. She cut off the toothbrush head and then whittled and sanded the end down to a point.

Vera: That is really cool. Yes, I learned about naalbinding from reading about braided rugs. One day I happened to stumble on the "toothbrush rug." I thought the no-sew aspect was cool and would make a stronger rug, so I read more...and somewhere in there, naalbinding waas mentioned and I learned to my surprise that the "toothbrush rug" stitch was actually a much older craft from Scandinavia. I was fascinated.
