I always roll my eyes at the "Why should I pay for someone else's..." argument. All righty. Let's have a la carte taxes, assessed for only those items each of us derives direct benefit from.

Were that the case, Mr. Snarkypants couldn't go and scream at his son's football game this Friday, since all the schools would be closed, shuttered, and locked. Dope.

Yea, who needs all those roads. And traffic lights, and curbs, and sidewalks. I'll bet we can all save a boatload of money by simply banning them all!

But bicyclists like you could save ZILLIONS of dollars if you weren't paying the massive subsidies for roads for autos! Perhaps you should reconsider your position! (And yes, the "what planet" comment is a real winner, on many levels.)

Suzie: Hm. That's true. And they're even repairing the Border to Border bike trail section in front of WCC, my favorite route to and from work in the summer.

Trusty Getto: It makes me wonder about life here in Washtenaw County before the Civil War, which is when income taxes were instituted. There are plenty of graves all over the county from the first half of the 19th century. No taxes then. I wonder how the little county schoolhouses were paid for.
