Can you imagine something like this in Riverside Park? It could be a large outdoor theater work depicting "the mythical origin of Ypsilanti."

Imagine a river of people, dressed in green, blue, and brown, with (economical yet pretty) bent pieces of similarly painted cardboard, sinuously moved to simulate the river currents. But instead of a golden swimming dragon you'd have three Magical Carp. You could put them on a huge lightweight wheel, behind the wave-people, and the person with the carp-wheel could turn it with...something like a bicycle-chain-crank, making the fish-bedecked rotating wheel look as though the fish were jumping up and leaping up over the water, then diving back in. Dorky, yet striking.

Someone like Naia Venturi could really make a project like this sing. It would be fabulous. Voyageurs, Rosie the Riveter, some Huron River sirens--a vast panoply of myth and fact mixed into home-made, Value World-costumed splendor.
