This wonderful book had me laughing out loud last night more than I have for any other book I've read in the past couple of years. Who knew an account of reading all 33,000 pages of the Encyclopaedia Britannica could be laugh-out-loud funny? Yet is is, frequently, and with used copies available for a measly $2.99, it really shouldn't be missed.

I note that you an also snap up the 2007 Encyclopaedia Britannica, on Amazon, for a mere $999. Buy it from the "Best Sellers" (heh) section of the Britannica Store and you'll have to cough up another $400.

The set's one Amazon reader review gives it five stars. Heh. That's like saying Beethoven's Ninth is a darn good ditty.

I have to boast a little here. Y. is the proud and worshipful owner of not one but 2 complete sets of the EB. One was a gift from a work colleague who no longer needed the (pretty, green) set. The other complete set was fished from...I so love the delicious aptness of this image, please forgive me...a church dumpster.

But I'd like the 2007 set, too, seeing as it has articles on "Kerry, John; Nanotechnology; Wal-Mart; Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD); and Yo-Yo Ma...Animal rights, Monkeypox, and SARS..." Time to start saving those pennies.
