...one "home range"--winter and summer. The home range can measure from 30 to 370 meters, and larger fish tend to have larger ranges. Because smallmouths don't wander from their home range, they are good candidates for contained conservation and protection programs such as C&R or catch-limit programs. They like riffles and pools, they like to hang out near cover and structures, and one experimental artificial reef with concrete blocks showed greater biodiversity and overall fish population.

Picture a "River Rambler" boardwalk in the river from the Forest St. Bridge area to the Tridge (now the Four-idge, or Fridge, or Quidge), meandering from side to side in a pleasing, serpentine shape. The support piers of the structure mimic the "complex log structures" that bass like. Combined with additional complex log structure additions on the far bank, and possible dredging to selectively create bass pools, perhaps a kids' fishing resource could be created, leading to "Learn to Cast" day, the "Ypsi Kids Bass Tournament" contest day, and a spot for wholesome family fun in a tranquil, beautiful riverine setting.
