Note the elegant cinder block architecture of the patio plant-shelf. The dark spots on some of the pumpkins are just dirt; I haven't washed 'em off yet. They're all sound, with no injury. "And no pesticides, or fertilizer," noted Mr. F. Nosir. It's the power of worm castings, triumphant again. The worms ate our vegetable scraps, their castings (poop) fed the pumpkins, and the scooped-out rinds will go back in the worm bin--pumpkins and melons are their #1 favorite food.

Or so they tell me.

It looks like a very earnest pumpkin patch harvest. I love there arrangement on the shelf. We had one volunteer pumpkin plant this year, but after growing to a nice round size it developed some weird blight and deflated into a pile of orange mush. :( Beans squash and red cabbage were great this year though.

My garden was kind of a flop this year. I'm trying to redeem myself over the winter with good cold frame crops. But due to emotional distress, everything went in late, often didn't get watered, and much of it went to produce thieves. Well, not MUCH, but some. My peppers never filled out, my ground cherries ended up on the ...ground, my Three Sisters cheese pumpkins are tiny and have been chewed by critters, my broccoli is in flower, my beans are drying on the vine. Sigh.
