Fill glass with hot air from burning matches, and drop onto plate to draw up tea as it cools?

(oh, he's so close!!!)

(give it to him?)

OK, Fritz, you got it. Though the "official" solution, for whatever that is worth, is to stick the lemon slice full of matches, position that on plate in liquid, light 'em, immediately cover with glass, let matches burn for awhile till they burn out...thus causing mebbe a bit more draw.

I'm gonna have to start thinking of some harder Friday Brain Teasers, clearly. Jim aced the measuring-tangents one and Fritz got this one.

So much for my low-tech thought of holding the glass under the edge of the plate at the edge of the table and tipping it up, using the matchbook or lemon slice to avoid touching the plate. He didn't say you couldn't touch the *glass*, right?

Lisele, you know what, I really like that solution for just its plain old common sense. I'd say that your idea is a valid way too--heck, you're not touching the plate! You are right, "he" (me) :D didn't say you couldn't touch the glass.
