I have many "sunspots" on my arms from the years of hanging wash. I loved it because it gets you outside in the fresh air and the laundry never needs ironing. There is nothing quite like sheets dried out in the wind and sun. And the $ savings and energy saved... Alas I stopped due to the various allergies of my family, including grass pollen and ragweed. Apparently the pollen gets all over the laundry, exacerbating the allergy symptoms.

Maryd: Hear hear on the no-ironing--my least favorite job of all time. A shame you had to stop due to pollen.

I expect to keep hanging out things till late fall, mebbe even early winter, till it's time to switch over to indoor racks.

This guy says that dryers waste energy twice, by messing up the air you're otherwise trying to heat or cool.

Dear sis: What?! The neighbors snivel about LHOTP yet borrow your lines to hang out quilts? Well, fiddle-dee-dee. I hope you hang out five loads of wash on the new 5 clotheslines that just HAPPEN to stretch along the property line you share with Ms. Sniveler.

Humph.

You might want to check out Linedry.com. It is the website of a friend of a friend but this post of yours made me think of it. There are some neat photos on it.
