This is all going to be dehydrated, for winter. Check out those portobello-dried portobello is so good in soups, chili, anything. Tastes like smoky, woody earth; absolutely delicious.

My cheap nature was thrilled by what we paid for this wonderful food. Clockwise from left, it was:

22 pounds mixed red and yellow bell peppers: $10 for all (gor blimey!)
4 green and 4 purple bell peppers: $2 total
10 pounds onions: $5
3 pounds peaches and 3 pounds pears: $5.75 for both
1 peck maters: $6
2 big bunches radishes: $2
5 pounds portobello caps: $14

TIme to go sharpen the cleaver and start chopping things up! Yay!

I just called my mom and, since we're getting together for a Labor's Day cookout, asked her if she'd like some of this flood of goodness.

Initially she said 2 portobellos, till I convinced her that we were inundated with them and that she could have as much as she liked. "OK, well, maybe a few more. They *are* good."

Then I asked her about our lovely colored peppers, which I so love and eat raw as a snack. "Well, maybe one red one.

One red pepper? "Mom, we have TWENTY-TWO POUNDS of red and yellow peppers. You can have as many as you like."

"Well, I never eat peppers. I still have a green one, floating around here somewhere. But one red one would be nice."

OK. I'll carry down one red pepper, in my lap, and ceremoniously present it to her...
